Blank files creating when mounting share using Samba

When I mount a unix file system from a windows2k machine using Samba,
it is creating extra files of 0k in the same directory.  So for 
example, I copied a couple of graphics over to a directory on my
ubuntu box today and for every graphic copied over, there's two
extra blank files for each graph.  What am I wrongly configuring?
I have never had this problem with Samba previously.
