ah, excuse me, didn't realise you're using ubuntu hoary (breezy has
acroread 7.x instead of 5.x), in hoary i've done the following :
1) add this line to your /etc/apt/sources.list :
deb-src ftp://ftp.nl.debian.org/debian sid main contrib non-free
2) perform the following :
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get build-dep acroread
sudo apt-get -b source acroread
sudo dpkg -i acroread*deb

gpg-key: lynx -dump http://scii.nl/~albi/gpg.asc | gpg --import
