Yes. Either that or else select another o/s as Linux/Ubuntu is -not-
the correct choice for an operating system for that platform.
Or do you insist that Linux should run on a Walmart toaster too?

Why could they be at fault?! It is -their- hardware. They invested in
the R&D and design of that product. Who are you or anyone else to find
fault with them when they refuse to make public -their- internal code
and designs and standards? They own it. It is theirs. Or do we
suddenly change properly rights and ownership 'cause some of us do not
like it?
If you, the consumer, do not like it, then -you- have the power to not
buy that product. Last time I looked we were still living in the free
and capatalistic world.

Then blame the persons/organisations who choose to put Ubuntu/Linux on
such machines, calling it a solution, and then giving these to the
"unwashed masses". Or blame the "unwashed masses" expectations to not
only get a free PC, but bells and whistles and the Internet running a
free o/s on hardware that does not support the free o/s.
Where does the buck stop Peter? Where are the accountability and
responsibility for this "problem"?
Chancao implied that this is on the part of Linux. Implying in anyway
that this a Linux problem? I have a problem with that.
If it is not the Linux and the Open Source developers and one wants to
blame and fault someone - the only entities that remain are the user
and manufacturer. The manufacturer clearly states the product -only-
supports Windows. That leaves the "user" as the one to blame (or
organisation or whatever/whoever took the decision to use Linux on
winmodem h/w to provide Internet connectivity).
Or is this yet another case where 2 + 2 equals 5 for very large
quantities of 2?

Well I'm still foaming at the mouth as you can see... :-)
