Gnome and KDE keep logging me out!

This is a relatively new phenomenon for me. Whenever I leave my Gnome
or KDE session sitting for a little while, I come back and my session
has been ended, leaving me on the login screen. It's quite a pain.

I'm running Hoary now and just recently did a big fat update. If I'm
logged in over SSH or a VNC session, it stays up indefinitely. Is
there some setting I could adjust? Or somewhere I could look for
status messages? Nothing is apparent in the /var/log/ directory.
