OK, I went over to the Kubuntu Breezy CD that I also had and got a
complete install. Tried to load KDE at boot, but it kept getting
freezing, so I had to hard shutdown and reboot, logged into the
command line and did four full, consecutive "sudo apt-get update" and
"sudo apt-get upgrade" commands. Followed the everything so that
nothing got held back, which among other things included a new
kernel. Now I have the following problems:

1) Even with the latest Breezy kernel, fan and thermal control
doesn't work.
2) Boot shows some kernel modules that are expected but not found.
3) Still have freezing problems. KDE has never been able to boot.
4) Getting the following errors:

ata1: command 0x35 timeout, stat 0x50 host_stal 0x4
      hda lost interrupt
      mpic_enable_irq timeout

I have found the following threads:

http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-75145.html

http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-89712.html

They all describe the same problem, but they all have G5 iMacs with
ATI graphics. I have a G5 tower with Nvidia GeForce FX 5200.

Any ideas, links, advice?

Cheers,

Brian
