Go to Applications>System Tools> Configuration Editor
and open up the tree for desktop, then gnome, then head down to 
volume_manager (make sure you highlight this) and go to the window on 
the right, and scroll down to where it says "autoplay_dvd" in the line 
right beside it, click on where it says totem %d, and substitute totem 
for xine, then you're good to go.
