No such luck.
However, I no longer have a second non-functional GNOME menu drawn
half way down the desktop (I didn't mention that before... the bitmap
for the top-of-the-screen GNOME menu was drawn half-way down the
desktop (but didn't do anything... it was just part of the desktop
bitmap image)).
But...
Konqueror still opens up when I open a directory on the GNOME desktop,
and the KDE menu appears at the bottom of the screen in GNOME.
I'll just keep on updating every so often... for the moment I don't
have time to troubleshoot so I'll just wait and see :-).
