libXdmgreet.so missing

I installed XDM from universe. When I try to load it via the init script
(/etc/init.d/xdm start), the monitor screen flashes a couple times and I
get kicked back to a prompt.

If I run xdmshell, it errors indicating that libXdmgreet.so cannot be found.

I haven't been able to locate much information as to why this file isn't
there or how to fix it.

Can anyone provide any suggestion or pointers as to how to resolve, or
where to find more information about, this issue?
