Postfix was not installed, so I tried to install, first via a
gnome-terminal, then synaptic. Got the same results each time, no
matter what options I choose.

After I change the hostname (or even if I make NO change to the
'localhost.localdomain' default selection), I hit enter then the
installation process locks up with:

Preconfiguring packages ...
Warning: Newline present in parameters passed to debconf.
This will probably cause strange things to happen!

...indeed! Locking up IS strange!

Suggestions?
