Still Using 'Warty' - did a total Synaptic Update and PFFFTTT!!!

Are you saying the screen freezes? Is your desktop visible, or are you 
stuck with the screensaver? What happens if you open a new terminal with 
ctrl-alt-f3?

Check your power-saving settings as well.

Is it a desktop or laptop? If the latter, then Breezy has great laptop 
support.
