Ip tables and NAT

Hi,

Just wondering, what application is usually used to configure iptables
to secure a Ubuntu box? I am currently looking for a GUI firewall
application to introduce to a friend who has converted from Windows to
Ubuntu on his home machine, but who is not a typical Windows ignorant
user (considering that he knows vi!).

I have so far found firestarter. Comments and suggestions are welcome.

Hi,
A chance to payback this list a little, I do a lot of network work,
on windows, I just finished setting up a small server here in my office.
I have a satellite internet connection and the satellite modem is a
lousy dhcp server, but demands to used as one. So I set up an IBM Aptiva
with a AMD 500 and 265 to be a server with breezy for the network (5
machines).
I put a second NIC in. The ethernet0 is set to DHCP and is connected to
the satellite modem, eithernet1 is set with a static ip 192.168.1.1 the
satellite modem has an address of 192.168.0.1 . I am running firestarter
and sharing am internet connection with firestarter. The linux boxes on
the network only need to have an ip set in the 192.168.1.XXX range,
making sure not to assign 2 machines the same number. For win machines
you need to include a dns server which you can get from the advanced tab
in firestarter. This will be an outside address assigned by your isp. I
find no latency and a very responsive setup although the satellite
connection has some latency with the distance the signal travels.
I tried to set up dhcp at first but was having difficulty ao tried
the static ip and it just worked so I left setting up dhcp for another
day, when I know a little more.
Hope this helps someone
Bill
