cups-pdf does not print (pauses virtual printer)

With the RunAsUser fix, cups-pdf finally prints. However, the resulting 
PDF only contains graphics, not any text.

This the same result that I got from "file-printing" to a Postscript 
printer and converting the file with ps2pdf. Is there any way out of this?
