shared folders vs shared accounts

Create a shared directory (maybe /depot) and do a symbolic link on
both homes. I think you'll have some problems with writting
permissions, is that a problem?

I could suggest running mldonkey. It offers a web interface to access
it and all you'll need is a browser.
