Language display problems with Arabic/Urdu/Pashto/Farsi

i'm having a similar problem... sort of.

i have arabic language support set up and the ae_* fonts, but they're
not really useful, as arabic fonts go. they're basically all for
headlines. if you try to vowel anything, it unjoins the letters. i
tried to install some new .ttf fonts but couldn't get them to show up
as anything more than boxes (when that) after searching the forums and
wiki. =\



so, anyone have a favorite (non-goofy) arabic font and tips on getting
it installed to the point that openoffice can read/use it?
