Let's face it. Windows does do some thing better.

I wish they did.

But no they don't. Not in my experience. They do not even understand
what the big deal about spam is. And they believe that sending a
postcard to some sick/dying boy in some part of the world will make a
difference. (nor do they know who Dave Rhodes is)

If anything is a certainty in the home user desktop market is that
IGNORANCE rules. (which explains very well why they are not buying a
far superior desktop o/s like the Apple Mac instead)

No it is not. X is old technology and architecture that has been
seriously hacked in order to meet today's requirements.

Yes, the GDI has issues. But far less than X. Despite QtLib which do
make using X a lot easier. (having used both as desktops for many
years and also having written software for both)

And it pains me to say this as my first taste of Windows was back in
3.1 after using X for some years. Back then Windows GDI felt like a
pretty fragile thing to me. That is no longer the case - X is prone to
suffer a lot more anomolies in a desktop environment than the GDI.

BTW, I just again run into a X phenomena where Firefox starts to
render bits and pieces of a web page in different undocked X windows.
Arrgghhh...
