Unable to login gnome

What happens if you use twm (or something similar)? Try and isolate
the problem between X vs the window manager. It twm works then X and
its associated config and requirements are fine - the problem then
points to the Gnome window manager. If not, then it is not Gnome but
something in X or between X and the o/s and h/w that's causing the
problem.

PS. Like the ASCI art in your tag.. Pity that it is fast becoming a
lost art. Back in the old BBS days there were some really great ASCI
artists that did amazing stuff.
