i know there's some satisfaction and thrill about hacking generally
unsupported platforms, such as xbox and the like.. but if you're going
to run a flavour of gnu/linux on an x86 platform, wouldn't any
whitebox system be more flexible, less expensive, and much better
supported?
granted, there are those who'll want to dual-boot mac os and linux,
and i can understand that. but it can already be done on existing
macs. though, what will be more interesting is watching the process of
getting windows running on the new macs, or the x86 version of mac os
running on a generic x86 pc.
debian has problems with getting the lesser-used platforms released on
*their* schedule. will there be an x86 mac version of debian from
which to work? how hard will it be to a) start up support for a new
platform and b) keep it going on *ubuntu's* schedule. and because of
that already aggressive schedule, i would hate to see any development
resources diverted from the already-supported platforms for one that
will have far fewer users.. at least until such time that the
installed base of x86 macs approaches that of their ppc counterparts.
and then when that happens, what will become of the ppc version that
already has an existing user base?
