I just tried it. If I set the panel to "Huge" it spreads right across the
screen. Unfortunately that also makes it wider vertically, and "Huge"
is not my preferred size  :-(

Adding items to the panel gradually expands it, so I guess if you can
figure out a way to add blank bits that might work - I can't immediately
see an option to just add free space though.
