If you have never done this before backup your data.
Also, make boot disks for you running systems for the worst case that you
screw up the bootloader.
I would let the ubuntu installation take care of it.
If, when getting to the bootloader config, you see that not all your OS`s
are in the list, do not install the bootloader. That at least will not mess
up the other OS`s.
Then boot into madriva and add your ubuntu system to the existing list in
lilo.conf
You need to remember the partition /dev/had* most likely
Example from http://www.netadmintools.com/html/5lilo.conf.man.html
boot = /dev/hda
delay = 40
compact
vga = normal
root = /dev/hda1
read-only
image = /zImage-2.5.99
label = try
image = /zImage-1.0.9
label = 1.0.9
image = /tamu/vmlinuz
label = tamu
root = /dev/hdb2
vga = ask
other = /dev/hda3
label = dos
table = /dev/hda

I don't know (can't remember) what Mandriva uses as default, but it's likely
lilo, as that's what I have in place, and I don't recall opting out of grub,
though I could have. In any case, lilo's in place.
If the [k]ubuntu install handles it auto-magically and at the end of the
install I'd have a boot with all 3 options without my intervention in the
process, all the better.
If it doesn't handle it automatically, after the [k]ubuntu install is where
I would get stuck, as to what step(s) to take right at that point. Again,
not having done this before, and getting different advice as to how ago
about it, is why I'm so tentative.
