Sound very jerky with kernel 2.6.15-26-686

Yes, it is. But it's not just the "jerkiness", the real problem
is, that I cannot login into Gnome anymore. To be able to start
Gnome, I've got to kill esd. Then the applications startup just
fine - until the next sound is played.
