Printing from Gimp

I would welcome some help please. Until recently, I had no problems
printing from Gimp. Now, for some unknown reason I cannot print. When I
select "print" the printer icon appears in the top panel and then, after
10 seconds or so it goes away. 

I usually print with my colour printer but nothing happens with that
printer or with the default printer which is a LaserJet. I have checked
and rechecked my settings but can see nothing wrong. 

Any suggestions will be gratefully received.
