Fw: download

Hi,
I have just downloaded Ubuntu 6.06 to check it out.
Unfortunately when I attempted to open it - 
A. it wouldn't open, 
B. my Windows XP hOME turned to custard with allsorts of strange things happenning.
    [I have managed to re-establish XP] 
C. I even tried to delete 6.06 but it wouldn't delete.

So ---- I have some questions - How do I safely open Ubuntu 6.06? and If neccessary, how do I delete it?
I trust you can help me thru' this problem.
