Booting up in X

Hello,

Since I moved my /usr from /dev/hda8 to /dev/hda7 on which my / already
was, my system doesn't boot up in X. When I type 'startx' in tty1 it
starts X without hesitation. Under Gnome it is not longer possible to
shutdown or reboot. To do that I have to move to tty1 (or another
terminal).
I haven't found any deviation in my inittab nor in any other init
folder/script. BTW,I see the NVidia logo before it moves to tty1, so it
seems it wants to start Gnome, but then fails.
These are my only problems since my move of devices (I know of). I have
no clue what it could be. I must overlook something, can anyone help me
to find out what I'm overlooking?
