Just out of curiosity have you tried the Webmail Thunderbird Extension 
for 1.5 <http://webmail.mozdev.org/>? http://webmail.mozdev.org/

You'd just need to go to the following URL: 
http://webmail.mozdev.org/installation.html . Supports, Hotmail, MSN 
Yahoo, Lycos, Mail.com, gmail(why?), Libero, and AOL.

I currently use this for my 2 Hotmail accounts that I just let rot. =P 
Really easy to setup.
