And just fyi, this advice is not entirely correct. If you do that, the
file will be overwritten (or at least trigger a conflict) the next time
you upgrade gdm. It is better to edit /etc/X11/gdm/gdm.conf-custom,
which is there to hold local changes. Read the comments in the
gdm.conf-custom: 

# GDM Configuration Customization file.
#
# This file is the appropriate place for specifying your customizations
to the
# GDM configuration.
