Instead of going back to previous versions, you could try using the 
latest kernel and ubuntu patches.

I fixed my dapper problems my recompiling the latest kernel. To get the 
latest bleeding-edge kernel you can do what is suggested in the wiki
	https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelHowTos

Using git you would copy the latest source including patches by:

git clone 
rsync://rsync.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/bcollins/ubuntu-2.6.git 
ubuntu-2.6
