Unable to get dri enabled

My problem turns out to be  different, (I eventually found it was
already reported in malone: https://launchpad.net/bugs/47371 ).
to start with,  I..... I .... how can this even be possible since we
both run Ubuntu... I... I somehow don't even have
this /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/dri directory on my system, nor do I have
this atiogl_a_dri.so file !!! :-OOOO

How come....
