If you only want to change the prompt on virtual-consoles
(ctr-alt-f[1-6]) you might look into the package mingetty. Afaik the
"${hostname} login:" prompt is hardcoded into getty, with mingetty you
can use the -p option. You will have to change the references to getty
in /etc/inittab to mingetty. Be careful with this, I would start with
only changing tty6 to begin with.
