syncing PC and laptop

I use rsync for this exact purpose. Set up ssh on your pc (optionally set up 
pubkey authentication) and then you can just run from your laptop:
rsync -avzx /home/me myusername at ip.of.my.pc:/home/
You can set up a little script to reverse this as well, so that changed files 
from the pc come to the laptop.
The nice thing about rsync is that it keeps the transfers small by checking 
differences in files and only transferring the differences (the -x switch 
also compresses it is it goes across the network, I use wireless, so this 
helps)
