Dapper installation woes (checksum ....)

After seeing 606 eat up my CPU after doing an upgrade from breezy, I thought I'd try a fresh install.
 
 Problem: the installation doesn't get past configuring X
 
 I added 
 
 noapci nolapci debian-installer/framebuffer=false
 
 to the boot options, but no joy.
 
 I then checked the disk and got a checksum error on
 
 casper/filesystem.squashfs
 
 CIA
 
 -Ants
