Lost net connection trying to figure out mail

Ok. I was asking about how to use sendmail and was pointed to mail and
while emailing back and forth I was asked to look at my mail logs. I
went there and while scrolling down to the last entry, I lost net
connection. My modem is fine - my laptop still connects fine. I
rebooted and still cant get access. I booted to Windows - and it can
see the net. 

What in the world have I done to my system?
