64MB RAM isn't enough for a default install of Ubuntu - the recommended
minimum is 128MB.
The fact that the problem surfaces so early in the install - with
partitioning - is odd though. I have installed 5.10 on a pentium 200mmx
with 64MB RAM, but I used the "server" install (which installs only the
base system without Gnome) , then added a light window manager and
applications using apt-get.
>From the information you gave I can't see where the problem lies, but
perhaps another list member will be able to help more specifically. If it
is only the partitioner that has problems, you may be able to set up your
partitions separately before installing, for example using a live CD. The
Ubuntu live CD might not boot on that machine, however, since your RAM is
so limited.
I also wonder whether the CD itself may be corrupt - it might be worth
checking its integrity with md5sum...
