screen repaint problems - lines of pixels getting left behind

Hi,
Thanks to help from this list a few weeks back I finally got Ubuntu
configured so I can use resolutions greater than 640x480 with my 20" Sony
LCD monitor (SDM-S204). My machine is a Dell SC430 and I'm using the
on-board Intel video card. My current xorg.conf file is posted here:

Everything looks great but there is a problem with the screen getting
garbled when I scroll the contents of windows (e.g. terminal display
scrolling while running scripts or scrolling through Google results in
firefox). It basically looks like the window isn't repainting properly
during scroll operations and lines of pixels are getting left behind. The
problem seems worse the faster I scroll. Resizing a window will cause it to
repaint completely and everything looks fine again. I tried taking a screen
shot using "print screen" but that triggers a screen repaint and fixes
everything.
I have no idea where I should look for help with this problem. Is it still
an xorg configuration issue? I'm using a custom Modeline (the only way I
could get the UI working) so is that potentially the cause?
Any help much appreciated.
Thanks.
