Note the variety of answers you got.  Totem can be made occasionally to 
work standalone, if you have already downloaded the movie.  It hardly 
ever works as a plugin within Firefox.  It certainly does not work out 
of the box, as does most everything else in Ubuntu.

i know, they did pack some shitty software wiht ubuntu. i was just trying to find the most recommended media player so i know which one would be easier to use and would play back the supported movie formats w/o telling me the supported format isnt supported
