If you are uncomfortable using qt --for *whatever* reason-- there is one 
distro out there which allows you total control over it: that is Gentoo.  I 
ran it for roughly a year and never used certain libs that are 'required' in 
other distros.  Only reason I changed was curiosity when someone mentioned 
kubuntu and how much he liked it.
