Install the config file cups-pdf.conf from the web.  You can get it here:

http://cip.physik.uni-wuerzburg.de/~vrbehr/cups-pdf/

Modify it by changing the line

#Out ....

to

Out ${HOME}

change the permissions on the spool directory:

sudo chmod a+rwxt /var/spool/cups-pdf/SPOOL

Install a new printer.  I used the standard PostScript driver and it
seemed to handle color fine, but they recommend the Color postscript
driver.
