In general, no. The problem is that there's one action that's very slow
(x client takes screen shot, manipulates it, and paints it back to the x
server). Most x clients run just fine over the link.

Cool. I've seen FreeNX mentioned many a time. I've never bothered to try
it out, since ssh/X11 tunnels work great and securely and integrate
perfectly into my workflow. I'd really just like to set some environment
variable that tells gksu not to do this one slow operation when I'm
running over a slow link.
