However, I completely removed Chinese support and all scim components to
test time again, and there has been no improvement. Could keeping the zh
locale affect the speed?
For bootchart, I just installed it (see attached file) but it looks
quite normal to me (I can't see any point where a process is taking too
long). However I'm no expert.

Man, that would be great! I'd happily kill half of the system to get
that "speed" (even though speed is not really appropriate, I can
remember Netscape taking less than that on an old Pentium 166 MMX)
