You may be able to get at the logs using the Rescue option of the CD. Failing
that, any good bootable --like Knoppix, for instance-- and you could mount
the partition & see if anything is there at all. If the kernel started,
perhaps logging did. If not, then it didn't. Sorry if I forgot what the OP
said in its entirety. :-\
