Probably because Firefox is x-platform and therefore better known? It
can be comforting, in a way, when you're trying out something new (like
a whole different OS) to find a few familiar friends to ease the
transition.
Personally, the first thing I installed after installing Breezy was
Epiphany. It fits much better into Gnome, it's faster and snappier,
doesn't sit there consuming cycles like Firefox, doesn't take up to 6
seconds to open a new tab like Firefox, and has yet to crash on me
unlike Firefox. Plus the bookmark system is more advanced and easier to
use/organize.
Debian Etch's Epiphany is a little farther along than the version is
Breezy, but I presume Dapper will catch up. Etch's accompanying
extensions package includes Greasemonkey support and adblocking among a
few other useful extras that aren't yet in Breezy.
Epiphany reminds me of what Firefox was like when I first started using
in around v.0.5 or so -- a nice extendable lightweight browser.
Hopefully the feature-bloat that has set into Firefox development won't
plague Epiphany down the road.
I would also like to try Seamonkey when an official package is ready.
