Too many drivers competing for the same input (wacom, mouse)

Ubuntu Users,

I have a USB Wacom tablet for my primary pointer device, and no other
pointer devices attached to my computer. I have no PS2 mice or USB mice
at all.

I believe I have all the correct drivers installed. However, if I run:
sudo xxd /dev/input/wacom
or
sudo xxd /dev/input/mouse0

Both return results when I move my stylus over the tablet.

So it seems that the mouse0 driver and wacom driver are competing for
control of my Wacom. And from the behaviour, it seems that the mouse0
driver is winning.

I tried various experiments with xorg.conf to see if I could get only
the wacom as my pointing device, but most attempts either do nothing, or
cause X to think there is no mouse at all and crash. I clearly don't
know what I'm doing there.

There must be a way I can stop Ubuntu from loading mouse drivers for my
Wacom, and not have any other mouse devices attached to my computer.

Can anyone help me with instructions on how to do that?

By the way, I've sought instruction on these web pages and others (I've
been on the sourceforge linuxwacom page so much that I've almost
memorized it):
http://linuxwacom.sourceforge.net/index.php/howto/all
https://wiki.ubuntu.com//WacomTabletIssue

And here is my xorg.conf file:
# /etc/X11/xorg.conf (xorg X Window System server configuration file)
#
# This file was generated by dexconf, the Debian X Configuration tool, using
# values from the debconf database.
#
# Edit this file with caution, and see the /etc/X11/xorg.conf manual page.
# (Type "man /etc/X11/xorg.conf" at the shell prompt.)
#
# This file is automatically updated on xserver-xorg package upgrades *only*
# if it has not been modified since the last upgrade of the xserver-xorg
# package.
#
# If you have edited this file but would like it to be automatically updated
# again, run the following command:
# sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg
