That's a two-way street though.  We had a great standard for DSL
connectivity -- Ethernet and RFC1483 -- and yet most ISPs only offer
crackful PPPoE (sometimes only over USB!) with all of the attendant
authentication and encapsulation problems.

Sorry, a bit off-topic, but it seemed like the best chance I'm going to get
this week to work off that little rant.
