Alarm or PIM for Ubuntu

Indeed Kalarm seems to solve all your needs.
I'm not an expert on it, I just used once (tree days ago!) to remember
about removing a baking bread out of the oven!
You might have to install the whole KDE PIM stuff to get the full
benefit of it (recurrence of events).

If it's really a dependency, please fill a bug for the lack of it.
Does other KDE applications can acess the sound system as well??
Perhaps you just need to tell KDE applications to use ALSA (or what ever
you using to control sound)?? (if KDE stuff doens't "just" work on
Ubuntu, then we really have a bug).
