IMHO, it's a matter of the flavor of the week. What was last years' Gentoo as an hype, this year is Ubuntu. Anyway, after most of my life on Debian based servers, I must say I find Ubuntu pretty comfortable. I've dug around some of the concepts of the distribution and been praising it to a couple of friends. So I must pick the b) option.

Private joke: you can measure the difficulty of using an os by estimating the time you spend getting any client to make a Voice Conversation over the MSN protocol. (:
