Dapper and MythTV problem.

I finally after months of procrastination got my TV tuner card hooked up.

Naturally it installed in Windows without a hitch (along with the
software it came with)....

Meanwhile back to Linux...

I won't go in to the setup horror stories I came across
*cough**http://del.icio.us/angrykeyboarder/mythtv**cough** as I'm not to
a point where I can attempt that mess yet.

I tried

$ sudo apt-get install mythtv mythtv-debug mythweb

Everything went along swimmingly till..

	Setting up mythtv-database (0.18.1-5ubuntu3) ...
	Failed to connect to database: Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost'
	(using password: YES) at -e line 5, <> line 1.
	Failed to create database (incorrect admin username/password?)
	If you supplied incorrect information, try:
	dpkg-reconfigure --force mythtv-database
	dpkg: error processing mythtv-database (--configure):
	 subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1

First off I have no idea where this "(using password: YES)" stuff came
from.  That certainly isn't the password I use.

So after a few attempts at this, I completely yanked all things mythtv
and MySQL (e.g. "sudo apt-get remove --purge ...") and started over.

I installed mysql.  I went through the debconf stuff and gave my root
password as requested.

Then reinstalled MythTV.

The end result?

	[.....]
	Failed to connect to database: Access denied for user
'root'@'localhost' (using password: 	  YES) at -e line 5, <> line 1.
	Failed to create database (incorrect admin username/password?)
	If you supplied incorrect information, try:
	dpkg-reconfigure --force mythtv-database
	dpkg: error processing mythtv-database (--configure):

	Setting up libqt3-mt-mysql (3.3.6-1ubuntu3) ...

So what do I do now?

I really don't want to have to use Windows for my PVR needs....
