Ubuntu 5.10 "live" CD's dont work

I'm fairly new to Ubuntu and have had ubuntu4.10 "live" (and install)
version working on this PC. I've just received the 5.10 versions and
neither the 64bit nor the 'normal' versions want to run.

PC spec's : Athlon64bit; 3000+ processor, 1GB ram,NVDIA 128MB RAM
video card. Running winXP on first 2 partions of 160GB hard drive and
wanting to install *nix into the remaining two.

I want to try out the "live" versions to make sure compatible.

When trying the 5.10 64 bit version it hangs with the last error message being :
"<0>kernel panic - not syncing : Aiee, killing interupt handler"

I've done some googling but there is nothing specific to ubuntu for
this error message. Any thoughts?

The error message for the 'normal' CD (32 bit version) is a little
different. It goes through a lot more stages and ends up hanging at
the message "starting hotplug subsystem". I do need USB support to
work. I've done some googling on this as well, but nothing seems to
work or pertain to the "live" version.

Can someone advise how to resolve (or point me to the best links for
assistance)...

Thanks, /paul
