no sound when playing WMV files

Hi, it seems I'm the only one where this solution doesn't help. When I
tried playing a WMV the sounds start and at 4 seconds, the sound cuts
out. I changed the priority to 7 as instructed but no dice.

I have the w32 codecs installed, everything but WMV gives me sound. I
was also shocked VLC didn'T play either video or sound. it's the first
time I see that happen.
