Jules, download and install the latest version of Java from Sun Microsystems. 
Follow the installation instructions at their website. Afterwards, edit the 
Azureus shell script with a text editor, changing the JAVA_DIR directory > 
point to the folder where you have installed the latest Java environment. 
Save the changes and run the script. It did the trick for me :)
