I used EVO on Dapper had same trouble:

if mailboxes are getting big, it takes ages to close down EVO... easily 
10 sec.
Often EVO has sync error messages with the mailserver, had to restart EVO.
Transfer the EVO mailboxes you have to save your mails as a .mbx file
with mailboxes around 150MB this is a task.
Finally the addressbook-export script did not work in my case.
Lot of handwork, once you want go away from EVO
Will not touch this thing again. Do not need Palm Sync Calendar or Task
