Ati Radeon graphics card support

I am getting the same problems as this on my nx7010.

External display okay, but laptop panel goes dead as gnome launches...

And so far everything i've read hasn't helped me :(

Searched on nx7010, ATI, and everything else I can thing of, and
followed most advice.

the ATI driver works great "glxgears -printfps" is giving me figures in
the thousands, so it is using the driver correctly, just the display is
defaulting to the ext interfact not the panel...](*,)
